With Arms outstretched, His eyes beseechingly searched the heavens
He sees the angels anxiously awaiting his command,
“Destroy them!”
He was powerful enough to destroy them with a word or with one swift command, but yet,
He just writhes in pain,
He painfully lifts his body as he attempts to gasp for air…
This Jesus, who was fully God, yet fully man,
Just remained silent as crimson blood flowed from his wounded side,
He endured the cross while despising the shame,
As love kept Him there;
Oh, the pain,
Oh, the shame,
Oh, His anguish.
With arms outstretched on that wooden cross, His soul smiled,
This lamb that came to take away the sins of the world,
Smiled as he saw you, and when He saw me
As the flesh on his gutted back flowed with the redemptive blood,
His soul smiled while His body erupted in pain.
Yet our ever merciful Savior cried out,
“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
He refused to execute judgment even as crimson blood flowed from His wounds,
As His love for us held Him to that cross.
